Most people are under the assumption that you can only get facial aesthetics procedures performed at a hospital or private aesthetician clinics, however this couldn’t be further from the truth. At Alexis Zander’s practice, we offer a number of facial aesthetics treatments such as Botox in East Sheen which are carried out by our highly qualified dentist.

Facial aesthetics treatments are a series of non-surgical cosmetic procedures that are carried out in order to rejuvenate your appearance by diminishing any visible lines and wrinkles on your face or by enhancing your facial features.

Considering facial aesthetics?

You may be considering facial aesthetics for a number of distinctive reasons; as you age, your skin begins to decrease in elasticity causing it to look dull, sunken, and dry. Fortunately, procedures such as Botox in East Sheen offer a semi-permanent solution to this by relaxing the muscles in your face and smoothing out wrinkles and lines. It may also be the case that you wish to enhance certain features on your face or make them appear more appealing and symmetrical, so in this case, your dentist would offer a dermal filler treatment which can target areas of your face such as your nose, cheeks, jawline, chin and lips.

What is Botox treatment?

Botox in East Sheen consists of an injection that contains a toxin called botulinum which blocks chemical signals from the nerves that cause the muscles in your face to contract. This causes the facial muscles to relax, thereby eradicating any signs of frown lines and wrinkles. Botox is not limited to the face and can be carried out on multiple areas of the body, including the palms of your hands or even your feet. It is mostly a painless procedure, however you can always opt to have your skin numbed beforehand to prevent any discomfort or pain. The number of Botox shots required varies from person to person as it usually depends on the size of the treatment area. In some cases, your dentist may even require the assistance of an ultrasound to ensure the needle is inserted into the correct region. It is highly important that you do not rub or massage the treated area for twenty-four hours and that you do not lie down for two to four hours after receiving the Botox treatment in order to prevent the toxin from spreading to any undesired areas. The results of the treatment usually begin to appear within one to three days of receiving the shots and typically last for up to four months.

Dermal filler

Dermal fillers in the UK usually consist of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid which is injected into parts of your face to fill in lines and wrinkles or enhance specific features of your face by adding volume to them. As with Botox shots, dermal fillers are not permanent, but their effects can last for up to a year depending on the area that has been treated. The process lasts approximately fifteen to twenty minutes and is usually carried out under a local anaesthetic in the form of a cream which is applied to the area you would like to be treated. The dentist will then wait for a few minutes until the treatment area feels numb and then begin injecting the filler around the area. Once the treatment has been completed, the area will then be massaged using your dentist’s fingers to ensure the filler is spread evenly and to avoid any bumps. It is important to note that while getting dermal fillers is not painful, it can be uncomfortable and there will be swelling after the treatment, however this resolves itself within the first 24 hours.
